Winner of the Sana Elache Community Engagement Award 2021

Dr. Phani, as she is fondly called by her peers and students, first came to Canada on a student visa to advance her knowledge in Health and Radiation Sciences after submitting her PhD thesis in Nuclear Physics to Andhra University in India. She graduated from McMaster University in 2011 and continued on their research program until 2015 when she moved to Fort McMurray along with her husband. After an year of unsuccessful attempts to find a job, she started her own academy to help students with their academic needs. She customized learning modules for her students and made learning easy for them. She also involved in conducting career development workshops for adults and helped them with resume writing, communication skills, academic upgrading, and coaching for GED and TOWES.


On noticing the need of language skills for the children in the region, Phanisree followed up with Spelling Bee of Canada, a registered charity and initiated a chapter in the Wood Buffalo region. She fundraises for the event and successfully conducted competitions for 2 years in a row now. actively volunteers on the boards of Girls Inc of Northern Alberta and Imagination Library of Wood Buffalo and loves to teach Gita chanting to children. She aims at improving the literary and academic potential of children and youth in the region of Wood Buffalo.
